World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, dependent on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is because of how many perks must be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.
The level of an item is a widely used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips for items. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can use as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment, players can compare the levels of the item. It's a good indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it will be capable of causing. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done using the level of the item.
The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are various theories about how the item level calculation is carried out. One theory says that the item level is calculated using an equation that determines the value of an item's stats really are. It considers the fact that various perks have different value and that sockets have gems that increase the overall value of the item. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzards actual item level.
It's not the only factor that influences the ilvl of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also alter its stats. For example it can add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat mods, which are themselves enhanced by the player's level.
Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. no title for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.
Another way to change the stats on an item is by affixing it. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. The affixes could provide the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.
All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which of the available stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the range, unless it's an item that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that could change is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. As with the base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of the properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players a possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more valuable in the early game as opposed to later ones, since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each new level of item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields, and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.
Moreover there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be purchased from the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading the item and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. more info of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't be greater than 100%..
The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. All items have a success rate of 25%, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
